A Römer glass is a traditional German wine glass, usually made of green or amber glass, with a distinctive ribbed stem. These glasses originated in the Rhine region of Germany and became popular throughout Europe, especially from the 17th century onwards. They were often used for drinking Rhine wine and other local wines. The design elements seen on this particular glass, such as the engraved grape vines and amber ‘beehive’ stem, are characteristic of Römer glasses produced in the mid-20th century. The yellow rim adds elegance, which was typical of decorative tableware of the time.
