The porcelain factory VEB Thüringer Porzellanwerke Gehren was a well-known producer of porcelain in East Germany (GDR). Later, the factory in Gehren became part of the larger state-owned concern Henneberg Porzellan Ilmenau. The factory's products were distinguished by a variety of designs, including both classic and contemporary (for that time) forms. Some items from this period are notable for their bright glossy glaze (for example, lemon yellow) and geometric ornaments with gilding. This set, with its striking geometric rim pattern and vibrant color, is characteristic of mid-century modern design trends from the 1950s and 1960s. Such sets were popular for their stylish aesthetic, blending functionality with a bold visual statement. The combination of the bright yellow-green glaze and the graphic gold and black banding reflects the era's embrace of contemporary art and design in everyday objects.
